THE PERSISTENT
GUEST
by JODEEN REVERE
“…a ferocious and courageous confrontation, a battle for life; spirit challenged but unbowed - again and again and again. Jodeen Revere takes command of the stage as if she owned the place…”
“…she faces it all unflinchingly and with wit, delivering nearly equal parts humor and pathos throughout all 80 minutes (no intermission) of the play."
-Jeanne Huff, Boise Weekly
SHOW DETAILS:
It was a reading at Boise's MING Studios in November 2019, that would become the springboard for Jodeen's one woman show The Persistent Guest.
Originally intended to be part of a book, Jodeen’s sixty minute segment was funny, touching, insightful, enlightening and full of unexpected observations about her three separate rounds of treatment for breast cancer. The crowd was enthralled and enthusiastic. It became clear the piece was in fact a one-woman show.
The two years following the performance at MING Studios were spent developing the show with Boise Contemporary Theater artistic director Benjamin Burdick, but Covid-19 kept pushing the performance date.
In April 2021 a full length filmatic/theatrical hybrid feature film version of The Persistent Guest was shot inside the empty BCT theater. It is currently in the final stages of post production.
In January of 2022 rehearsals started for the world premiere at BCT but after three rehearsals the show was shut down due to the Covid-19 variant Omicron. Finally in October of 2022 The Persistent Guest, directed by Benjamin Burdick had its premiere as the opening show of BCT’s 25th anniversary season.
An unplugged version of The Persistent Guest, with no set, no sound design, no props, no projections, will be presented May 25-28 at The Spot here in Ketchum,Idaho. This will be a test run of the show before Jodeen brings it to the United Solo Fest in NYC this fall!
Jodeen is a Boise local, well-known and beloved, and many members of the Boise community play a part in her story. She embodies multiple characters, and guides us expertly with her charm, physical prowess and love for life.
